KL Awareness Centre of Humanity (Homeless Rehabilitation)
WINNER: Honorable Mention
The alarming increase of homeless people in Kuala Lumpur is becoming an eyesore and a worrying concern. Homeless people give a bad impact towards the image and reputation Kuala Lumpur as Capital City of Malaysia. "God will not change what is in any nation, until they all collectively make a change occur in what is in themselves." (Ar-Ra’ad verse 11). Thus, KL Awareness Centre of Humanity is one of the solution to change our nation towards enhancing the quality of living in Malaysia.

Interesting and high time someone focuses on the homeless in KL, truly a neglected group of people. What do you plan to do for them in your rehabilitation centre?

Hi, thanks for your feedback.
As being stated in the pdf format of KL Awareness Centre of Humanity, the homeless people will get counseling and motivation to revive their spirit to live. They will also get medical checkup and medicine as to ensure they will be more healthy. Additionally, they will be expose to a small business program such as art & craft based or food production based. Thus, it will help them to gain profit.
All of this things are depends on the collaboration from the NGOs and public representatives. Do care about others and life will be more meaningful :)

Sadly, the homeless might not think in the same lines as we all do. To them, they are not " truly a neglected group of people". They like living that life, to them, it's a simple life and doesn't seem like a problem to them.

We can't expect all of them love to live like that. As human being, everybody want to be better. Everyone have possibility to be homeless. Life is like a wheel. Nothing impossible. Just make your mind free to be more empathy with others people destiny :)

Yeap we can't expect all of them to be like that, but we can't expect all of them to be interested to join a programme planned for them. Something that most people fail to understand is that the homeless are not a group of faceless people. have you talked to a homeless person before coming up with this idea? I have friends who work with the homeless. It's not as easy as we all think. not being pessimistic, just want to evaluate from both sides of the coin :)

Yes, I can't deny it but at least we put some effort to help them. The result is depends on them and how we cope with this kind of situation. Because there is no perfection in this world, just hope for a better tomorrow :) Anyway, happy for your concern on my topic. At least I have additional point to make this proposal better. Thank you.

This is a nice idea. This is good to improve the image of our capital city.
Homeless people really not regard themselves as "truly a neglected group of people", but i think they regard life as hopeless. It is not they like living that way, but that can't find what is his existence in life means

well, to sustain this project long term, money has to be generated somewhere. Give them job and make a collective rent system from the homeless. the collective rent system should be on a percentage of income basis. so everyone can pay their share.
which a good format can be out malaysian tax system.( ie. scaling rate tax)

Assalammualaikum and salam 1dunia,
First of all, thanks for your support and votes for this proposal.
Let's think positively. To build up the rehabilitation centre without government financing the project, it is impossible unless there is individual or any private company would like to sponsor the project. I’m one of Malaysian that only proposed the idea and come with solutions to solve the issue of homeless people in a city centre.
We could at least, start with a simple campaign for this proposal. But for sure, it is a volunteer work. It is an advantage for me as I'm university student and I can promote this proposal among my cliques. I can gain awareness among the students first about the homeless people and start to influence them to involve with this project.
This rehabilitation centre takes time to be build because it is a tangible thing. It needs support from the government, NGO's, public and other parties to make it a reality because it needs two to tango. But, the most important thing is the basic of this project which is the awareness among public towards the homeless issue. Through this proposal, it can inform the public how to help homeless people in the right way. No matter how, it is depend on the public behaviour. We can't force them to put hand together, but at least we encourage them to think about others in conjunction to have a better living environment.
I’m agreed with chunnn h that to sustain this project in a long term, money has to be generated from the homeless itself. As being stated in the proposal, the homeless people will be motivated to improve their self confidence, and being taught to start a small business. As long they live in the rehabilitation centre, they need to pay rent. The collective rent system should be on a percentage of income basis. Thus, it is a cycle system which resulting win-win situation.
As overall, let’s gain the awareness first about the homeless people. The rehabilitation centre is a dream that will become a reality when Malaysian realize and start to take an action to enhance the quality of living environment. Rome is not build in a day. Hence, let’s think positively, take an action and make this proposal a reality.

What about homeless people who are illegal immigrants?
Falihin Jasmi • about 13 years ago
Thanks @Umi H for the question which alert about types of homeless people. As parallel with this challenge, the proposal objective is to provide a better living condition for our community. Thus, the illegal immigrants are not included. Usually, they will send to the illegal centre before being send back to their respective country.
