Sungai Milik Kita
WINNER: Honorable Mention

Yup, I didn't see this one either. It was a different idea this morning. How did they choose?
shafiq hafiq • over 13 years ago
Pity the guy who came up with the previous idea. He must have sleeping with a smile last night and only to realize his idea is not the selected idea...I got a bad feeling about this competition when they extend the submission period last month and now this. hmmm...I think someone better come up with an idea how to improve this competition. That will be the real winner to me. Just saying...

This was my favourite. Very Do-able. Kayak-ing along the river and picking up garbage, etc. Count me in when it is launched. (I hope Yusrizal M will not be expected to donate the prize-money back to charity. Average person's 3 years' wages)

Great idea , Yusrizal. Reviving or rehabilitating a 'dead' river is critical for a city like KL where the emphasis on the growth of concrete jungles has pushed aside the need for more places like green parks, playgrounds and clean rivers, which are critical to the outdoor recreational needs of its inhabitants.
yusrizal md yusof • over 13 years ago
Thanks Napsiah. The main point is I want to use the river now, I dont think we have to wait for the authority to clean it first before we can enjoy the river. The whole idea is about steps and programs proposal on how we can rehabilitate the river, using community strength, now. Undi saya orait..tima kasih

Jabatan Parit dan Saliran never want to do this? Or maybe mereka already know the situation/ condition of the river..? Singapore was one of the country successfully reviving their river.
yusrizal md yusof • over 13 years ago
If JPS had thought about it, they should implement it . But the idea came from anybody but the community along the river must be connected. I do throw some proposal of tools to connect them. There must lot of them tools coming within the community itself when connected. Singapore solve it with geoengineering, so as many other country. We should be proud if we can settle the problem with connected community power

Yusrizal M, how long do you think in order to make this project success?
yusrizal md yusof • about 13 years ago
The idea can be considered as sucessfull if people reallize that the river is their own to be managed. I do hope for instantenous response from the public. The core idea is to connect the community alongside the river. How long will it take to clean the river? is subjective to how tight the community can connect. Malaysia gain Independence through multiracial unity. Cleaning a river with connected community power, should'nt take long to be proven in this country.

I would prefer not to say this myself but the idea is as simple as it is the challenge title itself "Connected Community". There's nothing in the video about implementation cost because connecting community can be done even with zero cost. All we need is sense of belonging. My idea to create a sense of belonging is by giving the community alongside the river
1) Same objective to make it a community recreation facility
2) Rights to manage the facility themself.
These are Zero Cost!
I give the the title of the idea "sungai milik kita" to express the concept furthermore and throw in some examples how connected community can manage the river themself.Connected, the community collectively can produce more ideas to manage the river at cost they can afford. If Dato Kamal and PM say it is impossible to connect the river community. They shouldnt initiate this challenge at all!

to create the ownership to take care the river, especially Klang River for me is quite impossible.
Why?
I use secondary school as smaller community. Every school spend 5 year(form 1 to form 5) to educate a student to take care the cleanness of the school, yet we can find rubbish in school area. And student saw a rubbish, he won't take the initiative to pick up the rubbish.
Maybe we may start "Sekolah Milik Kita" first before we go bigger scale to Klang River.
Sorry Yusrizal, maybe you won't agree me. But it is fact.

To setup a plan, it is very important to know how long to run the plan.
With a proper plan, we can monitor the progress, control the cost, review the strategy, planning the organization headcount, and benchmarking.

I think this is a great idea. Malacca has already turned Sg. Melaka to a waterfront with recreational facilities and is already becoming a tourist attraction with boat cruises etc. I bet all these started from dreams too.
It has to start somewhere. This project can be a good kickstart and there will surely be revision and improvements along the way right. It is time for Sg Kelang to shine!
yusrizal md yusof • about 13 years ago
kim,
We can start anywhere, but the adults who will teach the children need to practice first. It must be Klang River, showcase for succesful connected community(group ownership).
I am in boarding school for 5yrs in Malaysia. We dont have cleaners. We clean our school ourself. Maybe there's someone didnt pick-up that rubbish but straight away behind him another student will just pick it up as it is our habit. We own the school.
A group ownership and responsibility is collective effort, a few cant do much damage to many.
The plan is for the river community to build. My idea is to get them connected. If I make the plan, It will be my river, not their river. Get the idea right first, connecting community.
yusrizal md yusof • about 13 years ago
Sheu,
I cant see any cost to unite, set an objective and create the procedure together by the community. Of course people will not do it for FREE. Cant u see the biggest prize that they will get. THE COLLECTIVE OWNERSHIP OF THE RIVER. Dream on...
yusrizal md yusof • about 13 years ago
Nash,
Yes its time for Sungai Kelang. Revision and improvements will always be there. There's 4 million people along this river, when connected there might be too many good ideas to be implement. By the way, have you watched my video yet? we dont want to go to Malacca anymore, we want to go to our Sg Klang..hahaha.. Vote for me OK.. Thanks!
yusrizal md yusof • about 13 years ago
Sheu,
Thank You for your vote! If I win, I will make sure this can be implement. It will be my life mission. If I dont win...at least PM will know another alternative to clean sungai Klang to be consider.

it is a great idea. but cause and effects should be considered.
i didn't read much coz i'm lazy, but all those dumps and future dumps shud be handled first, as i think by eliminating the pollutant factors are crucial so the rehab process can go on without faulty. just an opinion~ but it is still a GREAT idea. XD
yusrizal md yusof • about 13 years ago
Mohd,
Thanks for dropping your opinion. The idea is to work" from" the end result that people always wanted, not "toward" it. Yes, conventionally eliminating pollutant factors are crucial before going to rehab process but conventionally also people will always wait for that end result to happen. The river community will be depending on other party to deliver the end result that the community would love to have which is a clean and beautiful river. When the end result delivered, at that time, who do you think have the rights to use the river for whatever function they want? The party who clean it right? not the community who only wait and watch the rehab process being done. The idea is to make the community realize that the ultimate end result the river community want is the right to use it as their community recreation facilty. And we gave that ultimate end result they want NOW. The end result they want also come with 1 condition, the resposbility to maintain the cleanliness. Give them both the right and responsibility NOW.As they execute their rights and responsibility, eventually they will come to the point where pollutant factors need to be solve, by their own community idea. I hope you get what I meant by working from the end result. Any oppinion wellcome, the idea belong to the community now. We should work together. THANK YOU.
