Gamification towards a better Community
WINNER: Honorable Mention
A vision towards a better community in Lorong Syed Putra Kiri. A proposal which emphasize on a “points and rewards” system which allow a community to be connected mainly via projects and activities which enhance the community both physically and socially. The current community is lacking of interactions and communication. An ideal community can be shaped through common activities carried out to further enlighten the living conditions of the community. This "points and rewards" system will be a good drive to get the community to start working together. It will get more people to contribute for their own community by taking part in the activities. With this, interactions and bonds will build up and soon form connected communities.

Thanks, but incredibly that is what i want to achieve. If a community could work together, know each other, we can obviously help out each other and ease each other's burden. Just by merely knowing our neighbors.

Hi Sheu, thanks for your concern, i will try my best to answer all the questions.
Where
As proposed, if its going for implementation, it will be around my community first, and perhaps a few condominium (easier for implementation)
Who
As proposed
Cost
With this we want the community to do something in return gets incentive which is both beneficial to the community, better environment and rewards, but the rewards doesn't really needs to be object it could be status based, hence our title, gamification.
Do we care
Yes i do, its not a blind pick when we decided on point system and status, we did research on gamification and how it is implemented hence i believe it will work if done correct.
Problems
The reason? IMO, is really because everyone is so used to their comfort level and mostly computers and internet, it just cuts people off from meeting others. Why do we not talk to our neighbours? Because no one took the initiative to, but with this system, we encourage people to work towards something, and in the process, hope of making the community reconnect might just be possible.

Well, the idea is good. however i think the target group are not that community with the best interaction between each other, thus usually produce better results. But the community with low communication between each other and usually in a high crime rate area.
Probably the reward system have to be rethink

Sheu @ Its not just a point system, why do people care score so much in games? Frankly, i don't know, but perhaps reading a few on gamification concept and ideas would help clear the cloud. Why are badges important in games or even in reality like scout? Because it meant something. Also this system is mainly a system, not an app :) it depends on how you see the situation, and i've told you i believe in the point system, with incentive i believe it works, its kinda like why people buy up to a limit when there is a lucky draw or something that involve. About involvement and engagement, i think the MAIN culprit is computers, TVs and all the other gadgets. Culture tho, i'm not so keen, if you say a neighborhood is very prone to crime, there should be more community involved! It helps solve more problem than just everyone being wary of themselves.
@chunnn
Thank you, yes it is not meant for the best interaction groups, my main concern is those that is low in interactions (but frankly, i've never seen these groups in the city). The reward system in our thoughts have a few scheme, so each area could level up to another if they beat the first. hence unlocking more.
To both and all, yes i do believe the reward system works and if it really could be implemented, there will be more thoughts from all party. :) cheers to a better malaysia

I've watched this kind of evaluator-point-reward for community program on National Geographic. It's called "Doomsday Preppers", so I know it is doable. It even has a website (can be googled). Good luck with the competition!

Hi! I was just wondering what size community you envisage this working in. Also how will dissemination of information and onboarding of participants work? I somehow visualise that not many people will be interested in earning the points and rewards (which would require a large-ish budget and support from the relevant companies eg in the case of obtaining subsidies for water bills) If points and rewards accrue to the whole community but only a few people are putting in the hardwork eg to carpool, isn't this unfair? And then, if we choose to reward people based on individual input alone, doesn't this defeat the purpose of knitting a community more closely together? And what is your view on whether incentives will crowd out motivation in this case?
