Regretably there is some disatisifaction with the announcement of the top 10 shortlisted entries and there appear to be 2 key issues:
1. Some of the entries have exceeded the word limit
2. Some of the entries do not appear to be very easily implemented
With regards to the first issue, as we have already mentioned this was down to an administrative error and for this we apologise. We received a huge number of entries, each in a different style and format as we wanted to provide you with the freedom to express your ideas in a manner that you felt would be best. However this made it very difficult to accurately count the number of words for each and every entry. This was our mistake in accepting a wide variety of submission styles. In light of this we will require those in the top 10 that are above the word limit to be cut-off at 800 words.
As a learning point from this future challenges will use a fixed template that will restrict the number of characters to those stipulated in the guidelines of the challenge and ensure that each entry contains the information required. Moving forwards we are looking to migrate to a modified platform that will allow the administrators to do a better job and ensure that all of the submissions received are of the same format and quality.
To address point number 2, that some ideas may not appear to be easily implemented, the judges were scoring the submissions across 4 different areas and then the scores were averaged for a total score. Therefore some of the ideas may have scored poorly in one area but very highly in others and as such this may have resulted in a high average score.
As a learning point to this we need to investigate whether certain criteria should weigh more than others when calculating the final score for the entries to ensure that the key objectives of the challenge are met.
As highlighted in some of the comments, this is the first challenge of its kind that has been run in Malaysia and we fully expected there to be a number of teething problems, the key things is that we are learning from them and will ensure that we try to address them in this challenge and that they do not reoccur in future challenges. We appreciate your patience and understanding and we are keen to gather further feedback from you however please do be constructive. We are trying to do a good job here and develop something great for Malaysia. We have made some mistakes and we accept we will probably make a few more along the way, but this is a learning process and we know that we will improve along the way.
Again, thank you for your understanding and feedback, together we will improve the process and experience of these challenges.
I don't know how are you going to cut-off the 800 words for CABIN IN THE WOOD, you going to retype it, or you calculate 1 word by 1 word, then erase the 801 word and above.
Dear Jason T,
Thanks for a fairly long explanation but the same meaning as before.
1) credibility of the organizers reflects a bias in the proper governance.
2) to waive the rules and change the things that break the rules to the right against the ethics of 1MALAYSIA.
PLEASE ...Squeeze the mind ...
example, if the act of 'urine while running' is the wrong behavior, should we allow to agree this behavior only if they are urinated inside the house?
we compare the above matter with this contest. is it right to change entries that more than 800 words to about 800 words only if the rules are stated very clear and plus..there are still very many entries according/following to regulations.
Morning all..
Maybe we should write to Mark Rozario or UNIK CEO..hope he can clarify..I still remember the CEO definiton of Inovasi: Something that can work and can produce more money..By the way, I like to have all of you to comment on my Idea...I really need the comment to improve it. For Sheu Yang, Tq for your comment..the link again here: http://communities.challenge.my/submissions/12241-the-bottle-seaweed-dryer if you cant get through, just email me at awangahmad@yahoo.com
Such competition was never fair to begin with, how could a person compressed their idea in a mere 800 words? Even if an idea was really great, no one would be willingly disclose the entire thing unless pressed further for information and its implementation details which could easily surpass the initial requirements.
As for speculation, the selection was very much based upon certain 'criteria' not just because it was great, creative, or practical in the first place which I do not wish to discuss here. May 'Malaysia' 'prosper' under such bias thoughts and perspective.
I just found the picture from twitter challenge.my, which mean Sungai Milik Kita , gamification, COP and Citizens Start Here have do the presetation before.
I thought all project only submit through internet because the judging procedure doesn't include interview of the finalist.
Below taken from official website
What is the process for short-listed entrants?
Judging for the Genovasi Challenge will take occur in two stages. At the first stage, the judges will anonymously select a short-list of approximately 10-20 (average of 15) submissions to go to the next stage. This anonymous short-listing will be based solely on the PDFs submitted online. This number will vary depending on the total number of entries in that particular category and if the judges feel there are more or fewer that they would like to see at the next stage. The second stage is a public vote. The short-listed entries will be available online to view and the public will be allocated one vote each. If shortlisted, you will be required to make a short 3-minute video of your idea and be invited to an event where overall winners will be announced.
Thanks for your feedback. We hear you and we're sorry you feel that way. Those entries that were short listed by the panel will have an opportunity to reduce the length of their entry.
If they fail to meet the 800-word limit they will be disqualified.
I understand that some of you would prefer that the short listed participants not have a chance to review their entries, but we thought that this would be a more suitable approach for the finalists. As Jason mentioned, this is an area for improvement in future challenges.
On the feasibility and complexity of the ideas, some of the ideas are relatively simple and some are more complex. When the entries go up for public voting, this will be your judgement call. We definitely encourage you to continue the lively discussion about what you think works and what wouldn't here.
"Thanks for your feedback. We hear you and we're sorry you feel that way. Those entries that were short listed by the panel will have an opportunity to reduce the length of their entry. "
Why only shortlisted have the opportunity to reduce the length of their entry? Not fair to other submission.
The photos you see on twitter are from the short listed participants sharing their projects with each other today. You are correct -- the judging procedure does not include an interview of the participants.
More than 2 days without official statement regard of this issue, regardless facebook. website or twitter. Only have the irresponsible respond from moderator, and keep changing all the time.
did you find out how many word count in CABIN IN THE WOOD?
Please answer carefully when you say that "In light of this we will require those in the top 10 that are above the word limit to be cut-off at 800 words. "
It was regrettable to have even considered joining this competition when all are done in a non-transparent way. There is absolutely no feedback as to why our ideas fail in consideration, what are the scoring methods used, on what criteria and weighting that are resorted, etc. by the fellow judges.
I very much doubt that this competition was fair to begin with, so anyone who is 'lamenting' just because they are not chosen, I would advise that you spend your time on elsewhere that would be otherwise more productive as opposed to expressing yourself here. A waste of time and effort, lets hope that none of us would not repeat such mistake in the future.

You apologized for your administrative errors. Are you all doing this on volunteerism or charging a 'professional' fee?
You mentioned that you have too many entries to count the number of words.... ???? But you only need to check the Top 10 to make sure that they do go against any of your rules? Only that 10. Not so many, right?

Since the organizer can extend the competition date, they can also extend the date of public vote.
They should make thing clear before they move to next step. And they still owe 471 submitter an apology because make fool of us.

Since begining, organizer strongly emphasize that submission more than 800 words will be eliminated.
And disqualify those project more than 800 word is not hard. Organizer must drop those selected to ensure it accountability, fair and open.
